ABSTRACT: “Deconstructing the Clampi Trojan”
The Clampi Trojan is designed to steal tremendous amounts of data, including banking credentials, from infected corporate and home user systems. Clampi is operated by a serious and sophisticated organized crime group from Eastern Europe and has been implicated in numerous high-dollar thefts from banking institutions. Joe Stewart, security researcher with SecureWorks’ Counter Threat Unit (CTU) and an expert on Internet threats, was the first to discover the interworkings of the very pervasive Trojan. Stewart found in recent months that Clampi has successfully infiltrated Microsoft networks in a worm-like fashion. Stewart predicts that hundreds of thousands of corporate and home pc users are infected with the Trojan. His presentation will outline the characteristics of Clampi and its behavior, and provide mitigation and prevention techniques for effectively dealing with the Trojan.
