Christopher Hudel

Topic: "Security and Visualization - a walkthrough of the various methods and tools to visualize information security data and the merits of doing so."

Bio:

"Christopher Hudel is a second year PhD student of Software and Information Systems within the College of Computing and Informatics at University of North Carolina Charlotte. Christopher is also a member of the Laboratory of Information Integrity, Security and Privacy (LISSP).

He returns (part-time) to academia having spent the last 15 years working in the information security industry as an information security practitioner performing the roles of consultant, ethical hacker, and - currently - the Director of Information Security for LendingTree. Christopher’s specialties include the secure design of electronic commerce systems and the testing and management thereof, with a significant emphasis on application security.

Christopher’s current research under the advisement of Dr. Shehab, is “The Visualization of Database Access Roles”. They are working to solve the very real problem of how individuals can fully and completely understand the access roles that exist for large and complex databases. Following up on this research will hopefully lead to using visualization as an aid to creating and modifying database access roles, providing a solution where the number of database access roles need to be “cleaned up”.
